An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

DRY THROUGH FRIDAY: Not much change in the overall weather is expected through Friday, with mostly sunny mild days and clear cool nights. Highs will be in the 70s, and lows in the 40s (although the colder pockets will see 30s again early tomorrow). The weather will be dry and cool for the high school playoff games Friday night with temperatures falling into the 50s.

OUR WEEKEND: Part of the big upper trough out west will break away and lift north toward the Great Lakes, and a cold front will slip into Northwest Alabama Saturday night. This could squeeze out a few isolated showers Saturday night and Sunday, but the 12Z GFS run looks pretty dry, and any rain should be light and spotty. Highs over the weekend will be a little cooler, close to 70 both Saturday and Sunday with a mix of sun and clouds both days.

NEXT WEEK: We are still looking at the next decent rain event for Alabama early next week. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 12Z GFS brings in a good soaking Monday and Monday night, with the rain ending from the west Tuesday morning. Rain amounts of around one inch look likely, and severe weather should not be a problem with the surface low passing to the south, and relatively stable air in place. Drier air moves in for Wednesday and the latter half of the week.

LONG RANGE: No doubt a very cold airmass will build over the northern half of the continent during the latter half of November, but the NAO remains in neutral territory, and there is no real support from the recent operational runs of global models for any major move of that air into the Deep South. Quite frankly, the last few runs of the GFS suggest rather benign weather for Alabama through the end of November. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Our annual storm spotter training is coming up November 13 at the BJCC, as part of the Alabama International Auto show. We begin at 9:00, and you will be done at 2:00. And, as a “thank you”, you will get free admission into the car show. There is no cost, and no need to register, just show up. Brian Peters will be the trainer, and we ask all existing and potential Skywatchers to attend. See you there!

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
