Weather by the Numbers
* 1.00 inches is how much rain Huntsville Airport received in the last 24 hours. Madison had almost exactly the same and Moulton had 1.25 inches.
* 3 inches or more is the two-day total for west of Millport in South Lamar County. Heavy showers hung out in that area for a long time yesterday morning. Hamilton received 0.62 and Muscle Shoals 0.70.
* 11.62 inches is the present rain deficit for 2010 so far at Montgomery’s Maxwell Field.
* 6 inches of snow is in the forecast for the Gatlinburg area of East Tennessee tonight and Friday, mainly above 2,500 feet. Up to 4 inches of that is expected after midnight tonight.
* 4 inches is also how much snow expected above 2,500 feet in extreme NE Tennessee around Mountain City and Roan Mountain. It will start after midnight tonight with more snow showers on Friday. These are official predictions from the NWS in Knoxville.
* 102 was the hottest in the USA yesterday at Anaheim and Corona, California.
* 16 was the lowest this morning at Casper, Wyoming.
* 2 below zero was the coldest in Alaska at Anaktuvuk Pass.
* 27 to 30 degrees is the low temperature forecast for some of the deeper valleys in NE Alabama Saturday morning and Sunday morning. This includes places like Guntersville and Ft. Payne. There could also be a few snow flurries out of this system on the higher terrain of NE Alabama, mainly on Lookout Mountain and Sand Mountain.
