Quick Analysis – 437 pm
Still plenty of scattered, small, but severe storms over Alabama right now. One is in northern TCL county approaching Bankhead Lock and Dam and may run the Warrior River (the Tuscaloosa, Walker, Jefferson county lines), causing warning sirens in all three counties. However, the rotation has weakened recently, and hopefully that trend will continue.
Other storms with rotation in other counties.
As explained earlier, there is a capping inversion, keeping a lid on most of these storms so far, i.e., keeping them from getting large and tall. Small supercell storms like these can still produce small tornadoes…and we have reports of possibly 2 tornadoes so far today. Also, the air is a little more unstable in areas from I-59 south, so the threat for tornadoes will remain into the evening hours.
This is not a major tornado outbreak in terms of number/intensity of tornadoes so far, and it should stay that way, as the wind shear is slowly weakening. However, any tornado is a big deal if it hits your house, and any tornado can be deadly, especially to people in cars and mobile homes. So, this is still a dangerous weather situation and will stay that way for a while.
