A cluster of strong thunderstorms continues across Central Alabama. Specifically:

…..Southwest St. Clair County
…..Shelby County
…..Jefferson County

Some communities in the path:

Irondale

NWS, Birmingham has issued a Special Weather Statement (also known as a “Significant Weather Advisory” until 5:15 pm. This is short of a warning.

The strong storm crossed the Lake Purdy area and Mountain Brook and was moving NE at 20 mph. Hail up to the size of nickles and wind gusts to 50 mph can be expected.

REPORTS
…..Hail the size of quarters (one inch in diameter) at Hoover High School at 3:43 pm
…..1.30 inches of rain at Pelham in a short time
…..1.50 inches of rain in Helena

A line of intense thunderstorms continues to move eastward half way across Mississippi. We believe these should weaken before reaching Central Alabama.

Nevertheless, we will be on watch.

Thunderstorm now in progress in NE Trussville. Moderate rain but no wind.
