Slow Warming Trend Ahead

ANOTHER MORNING CHILL: Lots of 30s out there this morning… One of the colder spots at 5:00 a.m. is the lovely community of Valley Head, at the foot of Lookout Mountain in DeKalb County, with 34 degrees. Birmingham is at 43 and is actually one of the warmest spots. We warm into the mid to upper 70s today with a cloudless sky as a very dry airmass remains in place.
REST OF THE WEEK AND THE WEEKEND: A warming trend is the story… we reach the low 80s tomorrow and Friday, with mid 80s over the weekend. Days will stay sunny, and highs will be cool with lows mostly in the 50s. Yet another great weekend for football or anything else outdoors.
NEXT WEEK: A rather strong upper trough will approach early in the week, and we might actually see a few showers on radar Monday or Tuesday, but despite the decent dynamic forcing, the lack of moisture should prevent widespread rain and keep the showers pretty scattered. Then, later in the week, another chilly airmass arrives with the upper trough setting up over the East Coast again. No real sign of any serious rain event through mid-month as the long dry spell continues. Today will be the ninth consecutive day with no rain for most of Alabama.
OTTO? “Sub-tropical” Depression 17 is on the board this morning… this is one that certainly isn’t a classic tropical system, but nonetheless NHC will probably go ahead and give this a name later today. The system is north of Puerto Rico, and is no worry for us since the system will move northeast over the open Atlantic, and is only a threat to ships. The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.
