DRY WEATHER CONTINUES: Our weather won’t change much today; lots of sunshine with a high around 80 this afternoon. The humidity will stay low, and there is no chance of rain. Then, a cooling trend begins over the weekend, which will be noticeable by Sunday as the upper trough sharpens up over the eastern third of the nation. The NAM is printing a high of only 69 in Birmingham Sunday, and all of North and Central Alabama should be in the 40s by daybreak Monday. The colder valleys have a great chance of visiting the 30s for the first time this season, and we might even hear of some scattered light frost in those spots. What a nice welcome to October.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Fantastic weather for the high school games tonight; temperatures will drop from the mid 70s at kickoff into the low 60s by the final whistle. The sky will be clear and there is no chance of rain.

Tomorrow, Auburn has an early kickoff (11:00 a.m.) against Louisiana-Monroe at Jordan Hare Stadium. The fans will be drenched in sunshine, with temperatures in the 73 to 76 degree range during the game. Alabama will host Florida tomorrow night at Bryant-Denny Stadium (7 p.m. kickoff)… the sky will be clear, with temperatures falling from near 70 at kickoff into the upper 50s by the fourth quarter. Jacksonville State has a home game tomorrow night against Murray State (6 p.m. kickoff); the sky will be clear with the temperature falling from 71 at kickoff into the cool mid 50s by the end of the game. Should be a great weekend for football all across the Deep South.

NEXT WEEK: More of the same… sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights with only a slow warming trend. Just remember the outdoor fire danger will only increase as the long dry spell continues, and a fire alert remains in effect for all 67 Alabama counties. Be very, very careful if you do any outdoor burning.

LONG RANGE: The GFS continues to flip/flop on the potential of a rain event in the October 11-13 time frame. I would lean toward a dry forecast considering this is the driest month of the year; the 00Z GFS is indeed drier. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

TROPICS: A broad tropical wave east of the Leeward Islands has some potential for slow development in coming days, but the rest of the Atlantic basin is relatively quiet.
