Very hot September

| September 24, 2010 @ 3:10 pm | Reply

Checking some records this afternoon.

The meteorological summer of 2010 (June-August) was the hottest on record in BHM overall, with an average temperature of 83.7.  I’ll go into this more in a blog post next week, as the nighttime temperatures and the urban heat island may have played a role in putting this summer over the top.

But, this September so far has been very hot also, with the exception of one weekend.  Our average high temperature so far has been 93.4 and the average temp 80.6, making this the 5th hottest September (through the 24th) ever.   We’ve already had 22 of 24 days in the 90s, and 10 days 95 or higher.

At least things will be changing, with rain on Sunday and cooler temperatures early next week (see James’ forecast video).  Lows in the 50s!
