A Lady in Waiting

| September 24, 2010 @ 10:05 am | 2 Replies

Tropical Storm Matthew seems to be heading toward Central America arriving before he reaches hurricane status. Sustained winds now 50 mph and moving almost due west at 16 mph. (Still not sealed in stone) Even if he does, there is still plenty of time left in the 2010 hurricane season for the Gulf of Mexico to get involved.

This post is mainly about the Gulf and my semi-silly title of a “Lady in Waiting” Water temperatures all over the Gulf are plenty warm enough for hurricanes or tropical storms to thrive. Actually, SST (sea surface temperatures) were a bit warmer earlier–but still plenty warm and waiting to be worked over.

These water temperatures were taken at mid-morning today:

84…degrees 12 miles south of Orange Beach
85…in Pensacola Bay
84…74 miles south of Dauphin Island (land miles)
84…Mid Gulf
84…East Gulf
85…132 miles SE of Pensacola
84…off Grand Isle, La.
87…at Pascagoula Port
84…just off Panama City and Apalachicola
