Oh Deer…

I have received many questions about the little deer that made friends with me yesterday morning (after a Facebook post)…

As I went out on the back deck with my wife to enjoy the cool temperatures early yesterday before church, we noticed a deer moving through the back yard, which is nothing unusual for our neighborhood. What was unusual was that the doe was with two newborns, which were just getting their walking legs. As we stood up to see them, mom was spooked a bit and took off, but the little guys decided to make themselves at home. I went down to get my camera, and as quietly as possible took some shots. One of the babies wobbled off slowly in the direction of the mom, but the other one eyed me, and I was surprised to see him (or her) walking in my direction. Here is a shot of both of the siblings, and the one that decided he liked me…

My wife saw this happening, and shot some video using her phone up on the deck…

So, do we have a new pet? Am I a little deer’s mom now?

No. Thank goodness.

My wife was able to lead the little guy back into the woods, and we headed for church. When we got back, no evidence of our friend, meaning there is an excellent chance the family was reunited. We checked again early this morning, and no sign of mom or the two babies. So, looks like a happy ending for my new “follower”.
