An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

BENIGN WEATHER CONTINUES: A calm weather pattern continues for not only Alabama, but much of the nation, as dry, continental air is the story. The weather looks mostly dry through the weekend, with highs in the 88 to 92 degree range, and lows between 65 and 70. Birmingham’s high yesterday was only 87… guidance has been running a little too warm in recent days, and nobody is bothered by that. Yep, we have gone two days in a row with a high below 90. There might be a speck or two on radar along the way, but the chance of any one spot getting wet is below 10 percent through Sunday.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Wow, it has been a while since we have typed those two words. High school football begins in Alabama tonight and tomorrow night; the weather looks excellent, with a fair sky at game sites across North/Central Alabama, with temperatures falling from near 85 at kickoff to the upper 70s by the final whistle.

NEXT WEEK: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see all of a sudden the 00Z GFS brings in moist air Monday with a chance of showers; we will watch the next few runs before we make any adjustments to the forecast. Other than that, next week looks mostly dry with upper 80s and low 90s as we kick off the month of September. Still we don’t see any evidence of any really widespread rain around here anytime soon.

TROPICS: Danielle and Earl, most likely, will both recurve before getting close to the U.S. Danielle is a hurricane with 105 mph winds north of the Leeward Islands, and more likely the recurve will happen east of Bermuda. Earl is a tropical storm with top winds estimated at 45 mph… this one will follow a path very similar to Danielle and seems to be no threat to the U.S.

The wave coming off the coast of Africa is an excellent candidate to become Tropical Storm Fiona at some point in coming days, and with the lower latitude this one might be the one to watch, in terms of a possible impact on the U.S. mainland.

And, the Gulf of Mexico is unsettled, but no sign of any organization. If anything tries to organize down there, it will be headed toward the Texas coast this weekend.
