TWO IN A ROW: Sure looks like Birmingham will stay below 90 for the second day in a row. Statistical guidance form computer models has been running about 5 degrees too hot in recent days; Birmingham is reporting 87 degrees at 2:00, with Haleyville and Decatur at only 85. Hottest place in the state is Montgomery with 94.

A few tiny showers are on radar up over the northwest corner of the state, and over western Georgia, but most places are dry.

REST OF THE WEEK AND THE WEEKEND: A fresh shot of dry air moves into the state tomorrow, which should prolong our rain-free weather into the weekend and early next week. Still some hint of a weak easterly wave on Saturday that might squeeze out a shower in isolated spots, but the chance of any one spot getting wet remains tiny. Highs will remain in the 88 to 92 degree range through Sunday, with morning lows in the 60s tomorrow and Friday morning. Lows over the weekend will be close to 70.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The pattern looks dry for the first 10 days of September. There could be a day or two with some risk of an afternoon shower, but we see nothing on global models that could bring widespread rain to the state. The only potential change could be some system rolling in here from the tropics, which is not totally out of the question.

TROPICAL TRIO: We have three well defined tropical systems to watch this afternoon….

DANIELLE: This hurricane will pass north of the Leeward Islands and turn north, followed by a turn to the northeast over the weekend, keeping the system well east of the U.S. More than likely, this hurricane will also stay east of Bermuda.

EARL: Well, it will be Earl soon enough. Now tropical depression 7 in the far eastern Atlantic, it sure looks like this one will follow the same path as Danielle. A north turn before reaching the East Coast of the U.S., followed by a northeast hook into the open waters of the North Atlantic. This could change, but at this point it looks like both Danielle and Earl won’t impact land.

NEW WAVE COMING OFF THE AFRICAN COAST: The wave train is now fully cranked up, and more than likely this wave coming off the coast of Africa will be Tropical Storm Fiona (guess they will have to use the name “Shrek” one year if they use Fiona) in coming days. Too early to determine the ultimate destination.

GULF OF MEXICO: Disturbed weather continues over the Gulf of Mexico. Nothing organized at this point, but we will watch for some potential development over the western Gulf as this feature drifts toward the Texas coast this weekend.
