Very Hot Mid-Summer Weekend

**No weather extreme video this afternoon…. need to head out for a live weather shot at 5:00 and 6:00 from Regions Park and the Birmningham Barons game tonight**

Going to post J.B.’s seven day discussion here to save time this afternoon; you probably know what we are going to say anyway! Heat is the story through early next week….

SAME OLD STUFF:  I have been in the field of weather well over 50 years and I have never referred to weather as stuff until today. It was  my lifelong dream to become a weatherman and I have had many exciting and interesting experiences. I do know that feed back from my readers show that a huge percentage prefer summer, so I respect that. However, just for today only, I wish we could ship a train car load of air from Yellowstone National Park to Central Alabama.

TIME TO GET SERIOUS:  The weather outlook is spelled h-e-a-t and we see no complete break in sight. I am still avoiding calling for a 100-degree high for the next several days, but it is near certain that some parts of Alabama could have 100 at any time during the next three or four days. Today is the 26th day in a row with temperatures above 90 at Birmingham Airport. That may not be unheard of, but it is certainly well above average.

Yesterday it was above 94 in most sections of the state and many cities had highs of 95 to 98. An afternoon cluster of thunderstorms moved down the west side of the state and did not dissipate until south of Demopolis. These storms dumped 1.48 inches of rain at Athens, 0.96 at Courtland and 0.60 at Jasper. We already see some widely spaced thunderstorms developing early this afternoon in various parts of Alabama. We can almost guarantee you that these storms will eventually be shooting strong lightning bolts and we cannot over emphasize the danger.

OUR BEST CHANCE OF RAIN:  Most communities will stay dry each day through Tuesday. However, we believe there will be a better chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Another plus to this is that the afternoon high temperatures will back off to between 93 and 95 Thursday and Friday due to the increase in showers.

AT THE BEACH:  No comfort there either as high temperatures at Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Destin will be 95 or higher all the way through the weekend and the heat index could be as high as 105-110. There is about a 1 in 3 chance of a thunderstorm each day.

TROPICAL:  There is a fast-moving tropical wave producing showers and thunderstorms over the SE and South/Central Caribbean. It should change little until it reaches the SW Caribbean in a day or so. Only a small chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next two days. Elsewhere a small disturbed weather area was over the far Eastern Atlantic. Still very little chance of development.

MY TINY CORNER OF THE WORLD:  Little Miss Molly looks so funny after she gets a haircut. The MO will scold me for this, but to me she looks like a big swamp rat. She looks a lot lighter in weight, too, but boy can she move fast. She was so full of life when she got home yesterday that it seemed like she was doing 40 mph running through the house chasing balls and trying to intimidate me to be the pitcher. Of course, I did. We had about three games. Life goes on.
