With the remnants of Bonnie over Southeast Louisiana, our hopes for some additional rain have been squelched as Bonnie developed very little in her trek across the Gulf of Mexico yesterday. That’s also good for our friends in Southeast Louisiana so they did not have to deal with something more destructive. This morning it remained hot and steamy across Central Alabama with a few isolated showers already showing up on the radar.

If you are looking for something in the way of a significant change in our weather, go back to sleep. No really big changes are in the foreseeable future. The ridge sticks around with the possibility of some lessening of the strength of the ridge next weekend. The ridge should edge westward around Thursday and Friday with the strengthening of a trough over the East Coast of the US. This will give some relief to the Mid-Atlantic States an New England and perhaps reduce our heat a few degrees. But what we really need is a strong cold front to sweep through the Southeast US – something we are not likely to see for weeks yet.

So with little pattern change, the heat and humidity along with isolated to scattered showers will continue for the next week – maybe even longer if the longer range forecasts are right. Without a change, the scattered showers will produce hit or miss rainfall amounts around one half inch. Some spots might see higher amounts with the precipitable water values running fairly high across the Southeast – around 2 inches.

Little severe weather with only a small area of slight risk across the Mid-Atlantic states to eastern Kentucky. Besides Bonnie, there are two areas of concentrated showers in the tropics, one in the Southwest Gulf and one in the Caribbean.
