Hot as a Firecracker*
* Well not quite but if you were out a lot today, you probably thought of that old West Alabama expression.
By 8 ‘oclock tonight, all of the afternoon showers and thunderstorms were gone except for a bit of lingering light rain west of Tuscaloosa.
HEAT WAVES AND PETS (thanks to James Simms for suggesting this)
Unfortunately, we sometimes overlook out pets in weather like this and assume that they will take care of themselves. Not so. In hot weather like this our dogs and cats should be allowed free access to our homes where it is cool.
A solid black dog gets hotter than a light colored one. And a very active dog does also. It is important to make sure your pets have easy access to plenty of fresh water. If their water dish is outside, the water should be changed out a number of times to keep it cool.
Little Miss Molly and I took a walk at mid-day (hint, she needed to go) I cut her walk to 1/4 mile instead of 1/2 mile. When we got home, her tongue was literally hanging out and she turned down a treat to go to her water dish. That scared me a bit and I will be more careful. She is a solid black dog with a white chest and boiling over with energy.
Close your eyes if you don’t want to read today’s high temperatures. Here we go:
