Late Afternoon in Alabama

TWO AREAS OF CONCERN

1. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning continues until 5:00 p.m. for:
South/Central Greene County
North/Central Marengo County
East/Central Sumter County
These are West Alabama areas. The severe thunderstorm was located near Demopolis and moving NW.

2. A rather large grouping of strong thunderstorms in Central Alabama ws affecting much of Shelby County and parts of Bibb and Chilton County. Those storms were moving northward into Jefferson County. At 4:45 p.m., some of the stronger thunderstorms were over the NW corner of Coosa County, extreme NE Chilton County and along the Jefferson/Shelby County line moving northward into South and Central Jefferson County. Lots of lightning with these storms and very heavy rain.

SOME ACTUAL REPORTS
…..In Pelham, an additional 1/2 inch of rain in 15 minutes brought the total to 0.76 and the temperature has dropped to 76
…..Blue Springs Place in Alabaster, a house was struck by lightning
…..North Shelby County Fire Department had several calls of lightning strikes to houses, but so far most of them have been strikes to trees by the houses
…..Alabaster Fire Department had a structure fire
