Scattered Storms and Heat

Very little in the way of change expected in our weather pattern for the upcoming week as the heat and daily occurrences of scattered thunderstorms continues. Clouds and the presence of a fair number of thunderstorms yesterday helped to keep temperatures in check somewhat with highs generally around the 90-degree mark.

Scattered thunderstorms will be with us through the upcoming week. Troughiness in the upper atmosphere will continue for us until about Wednesday when the ridge builds back across the southern tier of the US stretching from west coast to east coast. With that ridge in place, look for the heat to continue with highs in the mid 90s – perhaps reaching the upper 90s by the end of the week – along with daily chances of thunderstorms.

The SPC has a slight risk of severe weather just to our northwest covering a large part of the Central US today and tonight. That area shifts eastward and breaks up a bit on Day 2. Tropics are quiet for now with no specific area getting any attention.

Long range outlook suggests little change to the overall pattern as the westerlies stay in southern Canada and we stay stuck with the strong upper ridge. In fact, if the long range forecasts come true, look for a great deal of heat across a large portion of the Central US.
