Another dry day for Central Alabama – and by that I mean the lower humidity that we’ve seen for the last day or so. So even when the thermometer climbs to 90, it doesn’t feel quite as bad outside. But the drier air won’t last forever as we see the dew points and humidity climb Monday and by Tuesday are back to the way it was last week with dew points in the lower 70s.

The upper pattern appears likely to change very little over the next week. A strong trough moves across southern Canada and that dampens the ridge some but it holds tough across the southern tier of the US. While the ridge holds across the eastern half of the country, a trough holds over the Rockies. That means another week of rain for the Central Plains all the way from West Texas to the Great Lakes. It also means more rain for that already soaked area. QPF forecasts suggest on the order of 7 to 10 inches possible over the next five days. Rain also stays just offshore in the Gulf with 2 to 4 inches possible through Friday morning.

For us, I think we will stay essentially shower free today and Monday, but as the humidity returns Tuesday look for better chances of thunderstorms. I still think coverage will remain in the isolated to scattered range which means many of us will remain dry.

Tropics have two disturbances to watch. The one in the Gulf remains weak and is not likely to do much. The second area in the western Caribbean looks fairly impressive on satellite and the overall conditions there remain favorable for slow development.

Looking further out in time, the ridge remains the main factor for us and much of the eastern half of the Nation, so the heat of the Summer of 2010 looks likely to roll along unabated for the next two weeks at least.

Planning on a cool dip with friends later today – that’s in a pool!! Ate entirely too much at a Fourth party last night – but all of the food was tremendously good! I believe James Spann will be posting a Weather Xtreme Video tomorrow afternoon. I hope that you have a great Fourth and Godspeed.
