A DAY WITHOUT SHOWERS? I often mention the fact is is very hard to find a summer day in Alabama without afternoon showers and storms somewhere… but this could very well be a dry day for the northern two-thirds of the state thanks to a surface front that moved in here last night. You can see the front easily by looking at surface dewpoints; the dewpoint at Gadsden at 5:00 was 57, while Greenville, down in Butler County south of Montgomery, had a dewpoint of 73 in the moist tropical air.

We will be bold and daring and not mention any risk of afternoon showers both today and tomorrow. Humidity levels will be lower; the high today will be in the upper 80s, but tomorrow we should reach the low 90s.

WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY: The muggy factor comes back during the latter half of the week. We will mention a small risk of an afternoon shower Wednesday, followed by a much better chance of scattered showers and storms Thursday as a weak front approaches from the north. This front will run out of gas before bringing any dry air in here, and with the stalled front we will have a chance of scattered showers and storms on Friday as well.

WEEKEND PEEK: For now the weekend looks hot and humid, with the standard risk of “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms”, with highs generally in the low 90s. Another words, very routine summer weather.

TROPICS: All is quiet across the Atlantic basin, and tropical storm formation is not expected through the first half of the week.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record this week’s new episode tomorrow night.
