A Quick 5:30 Look See
Here is where the main action is around Alabama at 5:30 this afternoon as pertaining to showers and storms.
…..A moderate to heavy storm was crossing the Tuscaloosa/Jefferson County line and moving NNE in the general direction of McCalla and Bessemer. That is the west edge of that long line of storms that came out of the Gulf of Mexico this morning.
…..The rest of that line of storms extends from Shelby County eastward to near Talladega and down through Tallapoosa County to near Phenix City. The line of storms was moving NE dumping locally to heavy rain, but overall the storms have weakened a bit.
…..Jasper Area. A small break-away cluster of storms crossed over the Jefferson/Walker County line and continues to move NW through Central Walker County. These storms will continue toward Townley, Manchester and Carbon Hill.
…..Central Calhoun County is getting heavy rain from a cluster that moved up from the Talladega area and crossed over the Talladega/Calhoun County line. That storm has also weakened a bit.
…..Up over extreme NE Alabama, a lot of showers from Huntsville east and SE across Jackson, Eastern DeKalb and North Cherokee County. Those were moving almost due north.
…..Checking lightning detection equipment just before 5:30 and overall I am thankful that the lightning has decreased somewhat, but still plenty dangerous in the main clusters of storms. There was almost no lightning over West Alabama.
