Lots of questions about weather on the Gulf Coast with the Memorial Day weekend straight ahead. Remember, we in that time of the year when there is some risk of a shower or storm just about every day, so if you hear “scattered showers and storms”, that doesn’t mean a “rainy weekend”. It will be in the forecast just about anytime you check.

For the weekend, we expect about 4 to 6 hours of sunshine each day through Monday from Panama City west to Gulf Shores, with that risk of scattered showers and storms each day. The chance of any one spot along the coast getting wet at any time is about one in four. Highs along the immediate coast will be in the low 80s, with mid to upper 80s for inland areas. I just checked the sea water temperature at Pensacola Beach, and it is now at 83.7 degrees (F).

Next week will be very similar; if anything showers and storms will be fewer in number by mid-week as the upper low over Alabama fades away, and typical summer weather is likely through the following weekend.

OIL: Seems like the oil slick in the Gulf is keeping many people away. My associates in Gulf Shores tell me there is no sign of oil on Alabama’s coast, and the Florida panhandle is looking great as well. While there is very little skill in forecasting the movement of the oil in the Gulf, it sure seems like the Alabama coast might miss out on any serious problems, and that is a great thing. Many businesses in South Baldwin County are hurting due to this situation, so I know you will be welcomed with open arms at Gulf Shores and Orange Beach now.

THE TRIP: And, if you are headed down that way, be sure and check out Spann’s Best Way To The Bama Beaches here on the blog, a few posts below this one!
