Not As Hot Tomorrow
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
STORMS OVER NORTHWEST ALABAMA: Scroll down and you will see the NWS in Huntsville has posted a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Lauderdale and Colbert counties until 3:45… elsewhere showers and storms are very scattered across our state. We will maintain the risk of isolated storms through the evening hours, but most of them should fade by 10:00 or so. Storms are more concentrated around the Memphis area thanks to a pocket of cold air aloft and the associated steep lapse rates.
TOMORROW: An easterly flow will bring in some moisture from the Atlantic, and also help to push cooler air into the state from the east. We note that temperatures across the Carolinas are only in the 60s and 70s, so we will get a break from the early season heat wave. And, with deeper moisture, scattered afternoon showers and storms will be a little more numerous statewide tomorrow. The chance of any one spot getting wet is about one in three, and the high should be in the mid 80s. Some East Alabama communities could see a high close to 70 thanks to the CAD effect.
WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY: We will be warmer on these three days, with highs in the 87 to 90 degree range, and while a few isolated afternoon showers and storms are possible, many places will be dry.
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 12Z GFS tries to push a weak front down this way Saturday, then stalling out somewhere around the central part of Alabama. If this does happen, then a few widely scattered showers and storms could pop up this weekend, but nothing widespread. And, previous runs of the GFS have suggested dry air will take over statewide, meaning little if any chance of rain. We will continue to lean toward a dry forecast Saturday through Monday, and make changes if needed through the week.
The 12Z GFS is also a little warmer, showing highs around 90 this weekend.
TROPICS: No change in the disturbance in the Atlantic east of the Bahamas this afternoon; still some risk it becomes a sub-tropical storm this week, but one way or another it won’t directly impact our weather.
VOODOO LAND: A nice upper trough shows up over the eastern U.S. in the June 6-9 time frame, which would suggest cooler than average temperatures, but we all know that can change.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record this week’s show tomorrow night, and we will stream it live on uStream like the last two weeks.

I had a great time today seeing the 2nd graders at Vestavia Elementary West… it was the last school program for the 2009-2010 school year. Be looking for those kids on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40 News. The next Weather Xtreme video will be posted by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow…
