TODAY: The upper ridge that has provided record warmth for Alabama over the past two days is being suppressed by an approaching trough, so today won’t be as warm as recent days, but temperatures will still be above average with a high around 80 degrees in most places with a partly sunny sky. Clouds will thicken tonight.

TOMORROW: A band of showers will move into Northwest Alabama after midnight tonight. SPC has the extreme northwest corner of the state under a slight risk of severe weather, but the storms should be weakening as they move into our state, and by the time they reach the I-65 corridor we are talking mainly a band of showers tomorrow morning as you drive into work. Looks like the main window for showers will be from about 12:00 midnight tonight through 12:00 noon tomorrow, and rain amounts should be under 1/2 inch. The NAM is printing 0.32″ for Birmingham, while the GFS is even drier with only 0.24″.

Cooler air arrives tomorrow, with most places seeing a high between 67 and 70 degrees. We will drop down into the 38 to 42 degree range at daybreak Friday, and the colder valleys could see low to mid 30s with some frost. But, the good news is that the frost should not be especially widespread, and probably won’t be too much of an issue for growers.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Delightful spring weather. Sunny mild days, clear cool nights. The high Friday will be in the upper 60s, followed by mid 70s over the weekend. Doesn’t get much better.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The weather sure looks dry for most of next week as a storm out west is shunted north of Alabama at mid-week thanks to ridging aloft. Highs next week will be generally in the 70s. And, still no sign of any significant severe weather threat in medium range guidance out to 15 days, as our very benign severe weather season continues.
