From Alaska…
Thanks to ABC 33/40 Skywatcher Kristie Calvin for these pictures and a video… she writes:
“Hi James:
Mike and I had some fun this weekend! With highs in the upper 30’s and lower 40’s on Saturday, we headed 117 miles south of North Pole to Denali National Park. Mt. McKinley was out in full view. While there was some minor melting occurring, the snow pack was still deep. Savage River, which is at mile post 15 in the park, was mostly frozen. The ice is very thick, but there were spots that has opened up and ice cold water flowing. The only wildlife we saw was one red fox.
However, Easter morning brought a little more excitement! While watching an Easter production online, we heard a very loud noise. We muted the broadcast and proceeded to check it out. We found a yearling moose on our back deck. Its height was about 5 ½ feet. (most moose can be over 7 feet tall). I was able to get a little video.
I am sure that spring in Alabama is in full bloom. It will probably be another month or two before we see blooms here. In fact, next week, we are expecting highs back in the low 30’s with a chance of snow!
God bless and Happy Easter!”
