Mild as Rain Ends

Our heat wave, er, mild wave continues this morning with the rain gradually ending from the southwest. The surface low was located over North Alabama this morning as it continued its trek toward the Mid-Atlantic coastal area by tonight and into the Atlantic Ocean tomorrow. Additional rainfall of a quarter of an inch or less is expected across North and Central Alabama this morning and into the early afternoon.
We get a dry and mild day on Monday before the next two systems begin to impact our weather. One is a short wave moving out of Canada and through the eastern Great Lakes and the other is a big trough moving onto the West Coast that will throw out a short wave that should produce some wet weather for us beginning Wednesday and ending Thursday. Wednesday/Thursday there will be a surface low traversing the Southeast so we’ll need to be vigilant for severe weather potential especially along the Gulf Coast. This system is likely to produce around one inch of rain for us.
That system heads east and northeast so we dry out Friday and most of Saturday. By late Saturday a developing low east of the Rockies will head northeast and drag a front through our area into early Sunday. By late Sunday we should be drying out and cooling off some.
The long range model output suggests a mild end to January as we remain under a zonal southwesterly flow which could also be somewhat wet.
Don’t forget to listen to our weekly netcast anytime on the web or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
I hope that you have a good Sunday. I’m off to Helena UMC for ushering duties this morning. James Spann will be back with the next edition of the Weather Xtreme Video by 7 am Monday morning. Godspeed.
