Rain Arrives Tomorrow
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
TODAY: We will forecast a high today at 60 degrees; if we reach that, it will be our warmest day since December 22 when the high was 61. Look for a mix of sun and clouds, with clouds thickening tonight ahead of the developing storm in the western Gulf of Mexico.
WET WEEKEND: The low will move inland over the western Florida panhandle tomorrow evening, moving to a point near Auburn/Opelika late tomorrow night. Most model output continues to suggest the heaviest rain will be over the southern half of Alabama, especially the southeast counties. Up here, amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible, with lighter amounts west and north of Birmingham.
The rain should arrive during the midday hours tomorrow, becoming more widespread late tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night, then ending early Sunday morning, most likely in the pre-dawn hours. Most of the day Sunday will be dry, but the clouds will linger most of the day with with a high around 50 degrees.
NEXT WEEK: Expect some very pleasant mid-winter weather on Monday and Tuesday, with a sunny sky and a high in the 50s. Still looks like the next wet weather system will arrive Wednesday night and Thursday, with potential for another 1 to 2 inches of rain. Maybe a little thunder, but again not much instability so severe weather problems are not expected. Another good chance of rain continues to show up later around January 25.
REST OF THE WINTER: We still wonder if February will make us shiver. Lots of cold air available again up in the source region, and with the AO showing a negative trend around the end of the month, at some point we most likely will deal with another cold wave. We just don’t know how long or how severe. We will see.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
