An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

RIGHT NOW: Wow… nobody in the teens this morning for a change. We can thank a cloud cover for that; Birmingham is at 26 degrees at 5:00, but we do note the clouds have pretty much moved on, and there is a pretty good chance we drop to 25 or lower within the next hour or so to keep our string of consecutive 25 degree minimums going (today will be the 11th day in a row with a low of 25 or colder, and will break the record, assuming we do drop another degree).

TODAY: Our warm-up will have a little setback today as colder air drops into the state. Most places will see a high between 36 and 41 degrees despite a good supply of sunshine. And, tomorrow morning we head down for the low 20s, with teens for the colder valleys.

THE REST OF THE WEEK: A pronounced warming trend begins tomorrow afternoon with a high in the 45 to 50 degree range, followed by mid 50s on Thursday, and upper 50s Friday. I think some West Alabama communities will visit the 60s Friday for the first time in 2010. And weather stays dry, although high cirrus clouds will increase on Friday.

THE WEEKEND: The GFS is trending farther south with our Gulf storm, but I still think most of the state will see periods of rain Saturday, with the heaviest rain down south. Around here, it is beginning to look like we can expect 1/2 inch, with up to 2 inches for the Gulf Coast. It won’t rain all day Saturday, and the rain around here should be generally light to moderate when it falls. And, Sunday, the weather improves as the sky becomes partly sunny by afternoon. No cold air behind this system; highs will be mostly in the low 50s this weekend, right at average values for early January in Alabama.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The first half of next week looks dry. The 06Z GFS paints wet weather systems around January 21 and January 24; see the Weather Xtreme video for details. And, no sign of more Arctic air for the next two weeks, although we note the AO begins to trend downward again at the end of the month.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. Scroll down for this week’s show notes.

Another busy day today… I have stops at Greystone, Mount Laurel, and Trace Crossings Elementary Schools. I will be in the office by early afternoon, and the next Weather Xtreme video will be posted by 3:30 this afternoon. Enjoy the day!
