A Cool Change Ahead

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

TO THE WEST: Clouds and some light rain continue over Mississippi ahead of a sharp cold front. At 2:00… Tuscaloosa is reporting 72 degrees ahead of the front, but to the west Fayetteville, Arkansas is down to 39 degrees.

No real change in our forecast; the sky becomes mostly cloudy during the next few hours, and a little light rain is possible with the front. Due to the lack of moisture, rain will be light and spotty. The NAM is now printing a whopping 0.01″ for Birmingham, while the GFS shows 0.12″. Looks like many communities won’t have enough rain to wet the pavement.

CHILLY DAY TOMORROW: The big change involves the temperature. Looks like we stay in the 50s all day tomorrow with lingering clouds. A real change from the 70s we have enjoyed in recent days.

Wednesday and Thursday look dry with seasonal temperatures; highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The GFS is a little more aggressive with the southern stream system that will impact Alabama Friday night into Saturday morning, and that trend is probably correct since we are in an El Nino cycle. Looks like rain will be likely in the general window between 6:00 p.m. Friday and 12:00 noon Saturday. The heaviest rain will be over South Alabama as a low pressure center moves inland from the Northwest Gulf of Mexico, but we could see 1/2 inch or so up this way. We will fine tune this as the week rolls along.

The sky will clear Saturday night, and Sunday looks like a sunny day with a high in the 60s.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: The 12Z GFS suggests a decent rain/storm event on Tuesday; watch the Weather Xtreme video for the day by day breakout.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
