Central Alabama is in for another nice day with surface high pressure over the Southeast US. Temperatures started the morning around 40 but we should recover nicely to 70 or 71. Look for another day with lots of passing high clouds – cirrus – with the possibility of more sun dogs as we saw yesterday afternoon.

An upper level storm system will edge closer toward us Monday. As it gets close enough to drag a weak front into the area, it will bring some chance of rain overnight Monday and into Tuesday. Right now it continues to look like the best rain chances will come from overnight Monday through Tuesday and Wednesday. But as the upper low heads north Wednesday, we are likely to dry out for the end of the week. Because the front will wash out in our area, there may be some small chances for rain but I expect much of Central Alabama to be dry. With clouds we should see temperatures drop back a tad with highs in the 60s.

Rainfall amounts will probably be light – less than a quarter of an inch for those that get rain. And I really do not expect everyone to get rain in this scenario.

For now, it looks like next weekend will have nice weather.

No areas outlooked for severe weather though SPC has focused on eastern Texas for some limited potential. No tropical action occurring across either the Atlantic or Pacific as the hurricane season gets closer to winding down for 2009.

Voodoo country has some interesting potential. A strong and relatively deep upper trough could affect us around the 27th with some wet weather followed by a good shot of cold weather. Another short wave trough around the 30th shows potential for a rather large winter storm for much of the Central US, so the longer range outlook is for some active weather. However, this is all well into voodoo country so we’ll be watching how those features evolve on later model runs.

Thanks to all of those who came out yesterday for Storm Alert Xtreme. Once again we had a great crowd and special thanks to the Brett McBrayer and the Birmingham Automobile Dealers Association for providing us the venue for this event – and for letting all the Xtreme participants into the auto show free. I hope that you have a wonderful day and Godspeed.
