BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND: Dry weather is the story for Alabama through the weekend with sunny mild days, and clear cool nights. We might have a few high cirrus clouds streaking through the sky at times, but the low levels will stay bone dry. Expect afternoon highs in the mid 70s tomorrow and Sunday.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Simply superb for tonight’s high school playoff games. A clear sky, with temperatures around 64 at kickoff, falling through the 50s during the games. Some stadiums could reach the 40s by the fourth quarter. In college games, Alabama will be in Starkville tomorrow night to play Mississippi State. Kick off is at 6:00. Clear weather, around 68, but in the upper 50s in the 4th quarter. Auburn will be in Athens to play Georgia Saturday night with a 6:00 p.m. kick off. Clear weather there also with 65 at kick off and mid 50s by the 4th quarter. UAB is in Memphis for a noon kick off Saturday. Sunny with 68 at kick off and warming to about 75 during the game. No threat of rain for any game across Alabama or the Deep South.

NEXT WEEK: The models continue to trend drier next week as an upper low just sits over East Oklahoma, keeping the rain to the west. Looks now like we stay dry Monday and Tuesday. Finally, a weakening band of showers will reach us Wednesday. The 06Z GFS hints at a stronger short wave toward the end of next week, 7 days from now, with a chance of showers and strong storms at the end of the week. Confidence is low with the model madness.

LONG RANGE: The big phased, long wave upper trough later this month is off the board on the 06Z run of the GFS, but it could return as the consistency has been good. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for more details on ideas out there in the land of voodoo.

STORM ALERT XTREME IS TOMORROW: Want to be trained as a storm spotter? Want to join the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher team? Our annual training event, Storm Alert Xtreme, is coming up tomorrow at the BJCC during the annual Birmingham International Auto Show. You will be trained by the best SKYWARN trainer in the nation, our own Brian Peters (he has trained over 6,000 Alabama storm spotters over the years). We encourage all of our Skywatchers to attend this every year; you simply cannot get enough training. We will begin at 9:30, and be out by 2:30. And, everyone that attends Storm Alert Xtreme gets free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show. There is no admission charge, and no need to register. Just show up, but get there early for a good seat. We had a packed house last year.
