Well, Ida no longer exists officially, but her remains are causing real problems along the Mid-Atlantic Coast, especially along the North Carolina/Virginia coast with battering waves, strong winds and very heavy rain. The actual center is near or just off shore from the North Carolina Outer Banks.

Here are a few spot reports at 10:00 a.m. Alabama time:

VIRGINIA
Norfolk…heavy rain, wind NE 44, gusts to 56 mph
Virginia Beach…steady rain, sustained wind NE 43
Norfolk Naval Station…heavy rain, wind N, gusts to 51

MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE
Ocean City…steady rain, wind NE sustained 44 mph, stronger gusts

OTHERS
Philadelphia…rain, wind NE, gusts to 35
New York City…rain, wind NE, gusts 24

MARINE OBSERVATIONS
Long Island and Nantucket buoys…13-foot waves
64 miles east of Virginia Beach…19-foot waves with gusts over 50 mph

To make the day more miserable, temperatures were in the 40s and 50s along the immediate coast and all 40s inland where it is also steady rain over Western North Carolina and Western Virginia.
