A Chilly Night Tonight
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
DRY THROUGH SUNDAY: We are still projecting a low in the upper 30s for most places at daybreak tomorrow with a clear sky and light wind. We warm during the day tomorrow to around 70 with bright sunshine.
The weekend still looks great with mostly sunny mild days and clear cool nights. The high Saturday will be in the low 70s, followed by mid 70s Sunday.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Absolutely perfect weather for high school play off games tomorrow night night and, for a change, the games will be on a dry field. Kick-off temperatures will be in the 60s dropping into the 50s. On Saturday, LSU will be in Tuscaloosa to play Alabama with a 2:30 kick off on CBS. It should be in the low 70s at kick off and in the 60s during the second half. Almost identically the same weather for the Auburn/Furman game in Auburn. UAB will have homecoming Saturday at Legion Field playing Florida Atlantic. Close to 70 at kick off and in the 60s during the second half.
NEXT WEEK: A disturbance in the Northwest Gulf of Mexico will move into the Deep South, and will bring a chance of showers and possible thunderstorms to Alabama mainly Monday night and Tuesday. For now the weather looks dry Wednesday and Thursday, with a possible return to rain by the following weekend. See the Weather Xtreme video for long range details.
IDA NOW A TROPICAL STORM: Eyes will be on Tropical Storm Ida, now over Nicaragua. The system will be back over water tomorrow, and it is expected to grow stronger as it moves up toward the Yucatan Channel. The GFDL continues to be an outlier, bringing Ida to major hurricane status early next week over the Southeast Gulf, while the other models are more conservative. The NHC has Ida as a tropical storm in the far southern Gulf of Mexico Monday night. Due to cool SSTs (see J.B.’s post below this one), it should not be a problem for the northern Gulf Coast, but our friends over the Florida peninsula will need to watch Ida closely, especially around Key West. Again, see the Weather Xtreme video for full details and graphics.
STORM ALERT XTREME: Want to be trained as a storm spotter? Want to join the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher team? Our annual training event, Storm Alert Xtreme, is coming up on Saturday November 14 at the BJCC during the annual Birmingham International Auto Show. You will be trained by the best SKYWARN trainer in the nation, our own Brian Peters (he has trained over 6,000 Alabama storm spotters over the years). We encourage all of our Skywatchers to attend this every year; you simply cannot get enough training. We will begin at 9:30, and be out by 3:30. And, everyone that attends Storm Alert Xtreme gets free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show. There is no admission charge, and no need to register. Just show up, but get there early for a good seat. We had a packed house last year.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow!
