Early, Early in Alabama–3:30 Report

| October 23, 2009 @ 3:35 am | Reply

At 3:30 on this quiet Friday morning, a long north-south line of moderate to heavy showers extended all the way from Chicago southward Louisville-Nashville-Florence, Ala., and down the entire length of the Alabama-Mississippi border to Mobile and out over the Gulf of Mexico.

Amazingly, very little lightning any where. Most of the lightning is out over the Gulf for about 500 miles (and very little there)

Movement of all the showers is toward the NNE with the line walking toward the east. It has taken nearly five hours just to move across Mississippi. So it may be daybreak or later before this line reaches the Birmingham Metro. The line is quite narrow.

This system has acted a bit strange.

There were tornadoes over SW Louisiana yesterday but the SPC (Storm Prediction Center) does not have a slight risk posted for anywhere today (Friday)

The main low pressure area was over Illinois early this morning with a trailing cold (or cool) front from the low extending southward to way out in the Gulf of Mexico.

So the sharks (and whales?) will get to experience a frontal passage also!

This will probably be the last update until the video discussion is posted by James around 6 or so. Besides, fresh coffee will not be available until about 5:30 and how does anyone work at this time of day without coffee?
