Alabama + Regional Update 7:40 pm
Showers moved into West Alabama late this afternoon and this evening. Very little thunderstorm activity however.
At 7:40 the main band of showers (about 40 miles wide and not very well organized) extended from Fayette and NW Walker County all the way southward to Monroeville and the east side of Mobile Bay.
Showers moving NE but the system shifting eastward fairly slowly.
A Tornado Watch continues until 11 o’clock tonight for West and Central Mississippi. A separate Tornado Watch goes until 9 pm for Southeast Louisiana and Coastal Mississippi.
Overall, the storms are a bit weaker but still producing moderate to heavy rain. The last Tornado Warning came out of NWS New Orleans at 6:40 pm.
Lightning detection equipment shows that most of the lightning offshore. In fact there was a line of intense lightning from south of New Orleans to about 250 miles out over the Gulf of Mexico.
