Rain By Thursday Night
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
FANTASTIC FALL DAY: What a delightful day; maximum sunshine, low humidity, and temperatures mostly in the 67 to 70 degree range. We stay clear tonight with lows in the 40s, and tomorrow the warming trend continues with a high in the mid 70s along with a good supply of sunshine.
THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Clouds increase Thursday in advance of the next upper trough, and the GFS continues to suggest the rain moves into West Alabama by mid to late afternoon, then overspreading the entire state Thursday night. Friday promises to be a wet day with periods of rain and a few thunderstorms. We are still projecting rain amounts of 1 to 2 inches from around 4:00 p.m. Thursday through 12:00 midnight Friday. A strong storm or two is possible, but a major severe weather problem doesn’t seem likely with marginal instability values. And, don’t forget moisture from Tropical Storm Rick (in the East Pacific) will be involved, so the rain could be heavy at times and tropical in nature. Looks like rain gear will be in order for high school football games both Thursday and Friday night.
THE WEEKEND: I still think clouds hang around most of the day Saturday, but the rain should limited to scattered light showers over the Tennessee Valley during the morning. Temperatures will be limited to a high in the low 60s with a cool north breeze. Sunshine returns Sunday with a high close to 70; it should be a beautiful fall day.
NEXT WEEK: A rather strong upper trough passes through Monday, but no moisture means no significant chance of rain. I guess a shower could pop up somewhere, but the day should be generally dry with a few scattered clouds Tuesday and Wednesday look dry, but showers and storms should return Thursday with a passing cold front. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for details; I take it one day at a time all the way through the Halloween weekend.
STORM ALERT XTREME: Want to be trained as a storm spotter? Want to join the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher team? Our annual training event, Storm Alert Xtreme, is coming up on Saturday November 14 at the BJCC during the annual Birmingham International Auto Show. You will be trained by the best SKYWARN trainer in the nation, our own Brian Peters (he has trained over 6,000 Alabama storm spotters over the years). We encourage all of our Skywatchers to attend this every year; you simply cannot get enough training. We will begin at 9:30, and be out by 3:30. And, everyone that attends Storm Alert Xtreme gets free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show. There is no admission charge, and no need to register. Just show up, but get there early for a good seat. We had a packed house last year.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
