Severe thunderstorms now over western Jefferson County from west of Adamsville to west of North Johns.

Most of the county will be affected as they move east northeast.

Watch for some penny sized hail and 60 mph winds. Lightning will be sharp and frequent as well.

Flash flooding is a huge threat also. 1 hour rainfall rates will be in the 1.5-2 inch range.

Lots of folks outside of various events. Please be in safe shelter as they approach. If you are out at a large outdoor venue, follow the instructions of organizers. Remember that your car provides better protection from lightning and severe thunderstorm winds than being out in the open. Think about flooding also.

Another very strong storm is approaching Columbus MS and will affect West Alabama’s Lamar County within the hour.
