Alabama at Mid-morning Friday
That upper low pressure area that formed a couple of days ago over South Louisiana is continuing to act a bit strange–but not unheard of.
It was centered over the Extreme SE corner of Alabama this morning. In the last day or so, it has caused showers and thunderstorms to stream northward mainly near the Alabama/Georgia border and the upper air circulation directs them westward into Alabama.
At 9:30 am almost all of the rain in Alabama was over close to the Georgia border but all of the heavier rain was more to the east over West Georgia.
The NWS/Atlanta continues a Flash Flood Warning for a number of West Georgia counties until mid-afternoon. This includes the Atlanta Metro Area. As much as 2 to 3 inches of additional rain fell in just a few hours earlier this morning in parts of West Georgia. Some 24 hour Georgia totals ending at 7 this morning:
1.41 Atlanta
1.61 NE Atlanta
1.44 Peachtree City
1.42 Valdosta
2.15 Jonesboro
In East Alabama, Anniston had a nice rain in the last 24 hours amounting to 0.72. This brings the August total to 5.40 inches and the surplus for 2009 has increased to 2.64 inches. Not bad!
