Lightning and Football

Lightning and football are about as uncompatible as any two things on earth. This is a run down where some of the worst lightning is located as of 5:50 this afternoon. Remember, these thunderstorms are a little unusual because they are moving from east to west instead of the usual SW to NE. Also remember that the lightning risk areas that we mention here can change in just a few minutes because of the movement of the storms, so it is important to check the very latest weather before going on to the field.

* NE Jefferson County near Trussville and near Springville
* West Jefferson County near Oak Grove
* Clay County
* Pickens County, especially the south part of the county
* Chilton County, NE of Jemison

Remember, those locations will change fairly quickly as the thunderstorms move westward.

Your best defense is personal observation. If you hear thunder, it is time to get inside.
