As you can see… many of us are out of town this week. For the first time, I did not take my higher end digital camera on this trip; I am shooting all still images and video on my iPhone. I am not a serious photographer anyway, and I wanted to see if the ease of having everything I need in my pocket would work. So far so good… the only issue is battery life; using the iPhone heavily from daybreak to nighttime really pushes it; the key is turning off as many radios as possible. I turned off wi-fi, and I had 8 percent of battery left last night when we got back to the room. You can also turn off the GPS, but I wanted that running to “geo-tag” the images.
The new iPhone model (3GS) does have a white balance and focus feature (you tap on the part of the picture you want in focus and with proper light), which works amazingly well. The main drawback is that there is no zoom (optical or digital), but in this application it really didn’t hurt.
