Thunderstorms Rumbling Along

| June 10, 2009 @ 2:08 pm | 5 Replies

That big cluster of thunderstorms that was up over extreme North and NW Alabama earlier continued to move SE.

Shortly after 2:00 this afternoon, the main storms were in a line from North Blount County into Southern DeKalb County.

Another shorter line of storms had developed from near Talladega northeastward to just south of Anniston and to near Heflin. Still another cluster of storms was over South Walker County into Jefferson County.

The NWS in Birmingham issued a Special Weather Statement effective until 2:45 for Blount, Cherokee, Etowah and St. Clair Counties. This is also called a Significant Weather Alert which is short of a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. Even so, the thunderstorm may produce winds up to 40 mph and frequent lightning as they move toward Sardis City, Walnut Grove, Sand Rock and Ramsey.

Another Significant Weather Alert was in effect for Cleburne County in NE Alabama until 2:30.

Overall, it seems that the thunderstorms have weakened slightly.
