Thunderstorms continue to march southeastward across North Alabama this afternoon. The stronger storms were from NE Cullman County and North Blount County northeastward to Guntersville, Scottsboro and Ft. Payne.

The NWS in Huntsville posted a Special Weather Statement (Significant Weather Alert) for the DeKalb and Jackson Counties until 2:15. The thunderstorms were moving east at 30 to 35 mph. They may produce dime-size hail and winds up to 50 mph with frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy downpours.

These storms will be crossing places like Russell Cave National Monument, Stevenson, Bridgeport, Flat Rock, Rosalie and Long Island.

There is a lot of lightning with these storms. Earlier lightning struck a telephone pole which caught fire in the Rogersville area near the Tennessee River. Before noon, a house was struck by lightning north of Florence and caught fire.

Further south, a cluster of strong thunderstorms over Walker County were moving into Western Jefferson County. In fact, a few were just west of the Birmingham area. They, too, were moving toward the ESE.
