While showers and storms were absent from the North Alabama landscape yesterday, I do think they return today, tomorrow, and on Saturday as moisture levels are rising. The ones that form today will be rather widely scattered, but the coverage should increase tomorrow and Saturday in response to a surface front approaching from the north, along with the possibility of outflow boundaries from storms northwest of Alabama. The front will extend from a major storm lifting northeast into Canada; that system could produce a major tornado outbreak later today way up north over Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where a high risk of severe weather has been defined by the Storm Prediction Center. A moderate risk extends southward to include Des Moines and Chicago.

The chance of your lawn getting wet tomorrow and Saturday is about one in three; our best odds in a while. We can’t guarantee rain for everyone due to the scattered nature of the showers, but some spots could receive over one-half inch. The afternoon showers should thin out a bit by Sunday.

STILL HOT: Yesterday was the hottest day so far this year across Alabama thanks to the dry air. Today’s highs might be a degree or two lower due to the higher moisture levels, but the higher humidity will probably make the afternoon heat even more uncomfortable. Looks like we will have highs generally in the low 90s over the next seven days.
