An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

HIGHS REMAIN IN THE 80s: Not much change in the overall weather pattern for the first half of this week; warm and dry weather is the story here in Alabama with highs in the low to mid 80s through Wednesday along with a partly to mostly sunny sky each day. The warm air aloft associated with the upper ridge should keep Alabama dry, with most of the weather action remaining to the west and north.

LATER THIS WEEK: The 00Z GFS really looks dry through Friday. I guess we might mention some risk of afternoon showers late this week, but it sure looks like any showers that do form during the heat of the day will be isolated, and most communities will stay dry through Friday. And, we stay warm with highs in the 80s. MOS products from model output tend to skew toward climatology, and are probably too cool later in the week.

THE WEEKEND: The upper ridge does begin to break down this weekend, and we will mention some risk of a shower Saturday afternoon with a front drifting down into the state. But, the better chance of rain should hold off until Sunday and Monday as a wave of low pressure forms on the stalled front. We should note here that there has been lots of model madness in recent days on how this evolves, so there could be some change to the forecast. But, for now, it looks like the next good shot of rain here will come at the end of the weekend and early next week.

VOODOO LAND: We really could use several more good rain events before summer arrives, and the good news is that the upper ridge does seem to go away for a while during the middle of the month, opening the door for a few decent storm systems to blow through here. Too early to be specific on timing.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record this week’s new episode tomorrow night.

TWITTER: Don’t forget, you can follow our news and weather updates from ABC 33/40 on Twitter here. And, my personal Twitter feed is here if you want to keep up with my adventures in life. Twitter is a short messaging service you can receive via the web, cell phone, or IM.

This morning I will be speaking to a ministry group at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Hueytown, and then down at University Place Elementary School in Tuscaloosa. I will be back by early afternoon and the next Weather Xtreme video will be posted at 3:30. Enjoy the day!
