An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

BRIGHTER AND WARMER: Looks like the weather will be dry through Friday with a gradual warming trend; we expect a high in the upper 60s today, low 70s tomorrow, with mid 70s possible by Friday. Great spring weather.

RAIN OVER THE WEEKEND: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the GFS is a little more aggressive with bringing rain into Alabama on Saturday, especially west of I-59 (west of a line from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to Gadsden). If this trend continues on the 12Z runs, we will have to hit the rain a little harder for Saturday for the northern and western counties of the state. Rain will be widespread statewide Saturday night and Sunday as an upper trough passes. At this point the chance of significant severe weather looks rather minimal, but rain amounts over 1 inch are possible.

NEXT WEEK: A cold core upper low sets up just north of here Monday; looks like a cloudy and cool day with some risk of a little scattered light rain or drizzle for the northern counties of Alabama. The high will be only in the 50 to 55 degree range, which is over 20 degrees below average for mid-April. The weather should dry and warmer Tuesday and Wednesday.

VOODOO COUNTRY: The GFS continues the idea of the main polar westerlies shifting north of here later in the month, which suggests considerably warmer temperatures, and fewer severe weather events. I think most folks will be happy with that. In fact, the upper pattern at the first of May looks more like the first of June.
