Showers Remain Isolated
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…
The showers we see on the radar this afternoon sure won’t help the drought situation across Alabama. They are small and widely scattered. As you can see below, some communities over Northwest Alabama got a decent shower last night, but that is a small part of the state and most counties remain extremely dry.
We will maintain the risk of a few scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm through tomorrow, but once again it will be a hit and miss proposition. The models continue to show only very light amounts of rain; the 12Z run of the NAM is printing 0.20″ for Birmingham, while the GFS is down to only 0.08″. The bottom line is that you don’t need to expect any beneficial rain through tomorrow. Some spots will miss the showers completely.
SUNDAY AND NEXT WEEK: Drier air moves into Alabama Sunday following a back door type cold front. Cooler and drier air from the east will make for very pleasant conditions Sunday through Tuesday with sunny warm days, clear cool nights, and lower humidity values. The GFS is trending cooler; it now shows a high of only 73 for Birmingham on Monday with a low of 52 early Tuesday morning. Sounds pretty refreshing; we might even see some 40s in the colder valleys early Tuesday.
Unfortunately we see no serious chance of rain around here all of next week as the drought will only worsen.
