Flooding Problems Are Serious
A day of persistent heavy rains is producing serious flooding situation across parts of West and North Central Alabama early on this Saturday morning.
Emergency managers in Lamar County report that 48 roads are closed across the County. A flash flood warning continues for Lamar County until 7 a.m. Fortunately, the rain has tapered off across the county.
Flash flood warnings continue for Winston and Fayette Counties also.
More torrential rains are moving across Greene and Tuscaloosa Counties at this hour, where a severe thunderstorm warning is in effect.
The Severe Thunderstorm Warning is for Bibb, Greene, Hale, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter and Tuscaloosa Counties til 5 a.m. The strong line segment extends from west of the Tuscaloosa Airport back to near Geiger in Sumter County. Lots of lightning and torrential rains with these storms.
Dont drive into standing water. You don’t know how deep the water could be and it doesn’t take much to sweep away your car. Pavement could be damaged beneath the flooding also. That is the case in Columbus MS this morning, where widespread flooding has occurred. Same in West Point.
In addiiton, a tornado watch remains in effect for much of Central Alabama this morning. The watch is south of the Birmingham, Tuscaloosa and Shelby County areas.
