Rain and Storms Increasing …Warnings Issued
Alright, we are getting ready for the final push for heavy rain and severe weather here in Central Alabama.
As our colleague Josh Johnson said last evening, “It’s the song that never ends.” But the end is in sight.
A surface low is passing into Alabama from just south of Columbus, Mississippi at this hour. A surface boundary between rain cooled air to the north and richer air to the south extends from south of Tuscaloosa back into the Montgomery area.
Storms are firing along the pseudo cold front to the south of the low. They extend from west of Carrollton to Macon in Mississippi. They have become quite nasty with lots of lightning in them as well as some hail most likley. They will continue across Pickens into Greene and southern Tuscaloosa Counties.
A severe thunderstorm warning was just issued for Greene, Hale, Pickens and Tuscaloosa Counties til 415 a.m.
Storms are also firing across the rest of Tuscaloosa County, even up into southern Walker and southwestern Jefferson.
To the north and east, moderate to heavy rain covers much of an area bounded by Muscle Shoals to Albertville to Birmingham to Vernon.
A tornado watch is in effect for much of Central Alabama for areas south of Birmingham.
