More Flood Problems
There has been an upsurge in thunderstorm activity in Lamar, Fayette and Walker Counties in NW Alabama. Also, an increase in lightning activity as far east as the Jasper area. Widespread moderate to heavy rain continues over the north third of the state, especially from about Fayette to Birmingham to Anniston northward.
FLASH FLOOD WARNING
The National Weather Service in Birmingham issued a Flash Flood Warning for Lamar County in extreme West Alabama until 4:45 a.m. The Lamar County EMA Office at Vernon reports flash flooding in progress at 1:42 a.m. The County EMA reports that up to 10 roads are closed because of high water across Lamar County.
The NWS also issued an area Flood Advisory for Fayette and Marion County until 4:15. This is short of an actual warning.
We have a report from Rick Roberts in Cordova saying he had some of the worst lightning of the last 24 hours soon after 1:00 this morning. He reports 4.53 inche of rain in the Cordova/Union Chapel area. We have another report of an increase in lightningn and thunder at Winfield in Marion County.
The Tornado Watch continues until 3:00 a.m., however, there has been no Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Warnings in Alabama since around 9:00 p.m. The Flash Flood Watch also continues for numerous counties until 6:00 a.m.
