The new Tornado Watch continues for a large number of counties across Central Alabama until 3:00 a.m. CST. The watch extends from the Mississippi border to the Georgia border and from about the Birmingham area to south of Montgomery.

At 8:45 tonight, thunderstorms were increasing in number and intensity over North Mississippi and they were moving eastward toward Alabama. Also, some storms were increasing in number and intensity through Central Alabama. A lot of these were dumping very heavy rain.

The National Weather Service in Jackson, issued a Flash Flood Warning for several counties in North and Central Mississippi until 11:00 p.m. This included such places as West Point, Columbus and Starkville. The storms were dumping very heavy rain. It is estimated, based on radar, that 5 to 7 inches of rain has fallen over parts of the area in the last 9 hours and an additional 1 to 3 inches are possible. A number of streets in those communities are flooded.

In Starkville, 4.70 inches of rain have been measured so far with several city streets closed due to high water.
