Warm And Dry Through The Weekend

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

A new day, but an old forecast. The upper ridge holds, and all of the active weather systems will remain well to the north and west of Alabama through the weekend. So, partly to mostly sunny, warm days and fair nights will continue through Sunday. Afternoon highs will be in the 78 to 83 degree range, a good 10 to 15 degrees above normal for this time of the year.

NEXT WEEK: The upper low, now south of San Diego, will lift out and weaken early next week, and it should drag a band of weakening showers into Alabama by Monday night and Tuesday. The prospect of really beneficial rain to wash away some of the pollen and to reduce the fire danger does not look good at this point. Still no sign of any big rain event here through the end of March.

PEEKING INTO APRIL: Still some good signs that April will bring the rain we need, as the upper ridge breaks down across the Southeast U.S. No need to even try to get into details since it is all in voodoo land at this point, but the pattern sure favors frequent rain producing systems for the first two weeks of April, and probably a healthy cool snap along the way.

PRIME TIME: Don’t forget to watch our annual Storm Alert TV special; Storm Alert 2007 will be on ABC 33/40 Sunday evening from 6:00 until 7:00… we will feature many of the video elements we used during our Storm Alert tour in February, and will, of course, have a story on the Alabama tornado outbreak on March 1.

WEATHER PARTY: Get all the latest weather news over on our sister site, WeatherParty.com. Be sure and register while you are there; you can submit stories and vote on them to determine what is published on the front page.

This is a busy day; I will be speaking at Holy Spirit School in Tuscaloosa this morning, and then tonight I am headed down to Auburn where I will speak to the annual meeting of the Alabama Association of Emergency Managers. Ashley Brand will be covering the night shift on ABC 33/40 for me, but I will be around this afternoon and will crank out a Weather Xtreme video by 3:30….
