SHORT FORECASTS (Extracted from official local NWS forecasts)

NEW ORLEANS
Tropical storm conditions starting later tonight with gusts as high as 50. Numerous showers and thunderstorms Friday with east winds to 55. The showers and storms continue Friday night but the winds lessen some.

GULF SHORES
Wind gusts as high as 40 mph through Friday with showers and thunderstorms numerous at times. High Surf Warning in effect. Rip Tide danger is high. Coastal Flood Warning continues.

HOUSTON
Hurricane Warning in effect. For Friday, hurricane conditions possible with gusts to 60 mph and showers and thunderstorms becoming numerous. For Friday night, hurricane conditions continue with north winds 50-60 mph increasing to 60-80 mph wth gusts to 100 mph. Numerous showers and thunderstorms.

GALVESTON
Tropical Storm conditions start Friday and hurricane conditions Friday night. North wind 55-65 mph Friday night shifting to the south 80-100 mph. Gusts may reach 120 mph. Hurricane conditions lasting into Saturday.

CORPUS CHRISTI
Numerous showers and thunderstorms Friday night through Sunday but most of the time the wind will be 50 mph or less. That is assuming the track forecast is correct.

OTHER NOTES

* Bush Intercontinental Airport flights will cease at 2 pm Friday.

* Some Houston area gas stations running out of gasoline. Tanker trucks filling at terminals but the upsurge in fillups is taking longer to resupply the stations.

* Parts of South Houston and areas south of Houston to the Texas coast were under a mandatory evacuation order as of noon today.

* Evacuations already underway at Galveston

* Wind gust to 60 mph earlier today at the 33/40 Skycam at Gulf Shores
